Product data is the shared language of AI commerce

Align product pages, schema and feeds around one source of truth to improve clarity and reduce channel errors.

A product page is not the only source a platform reads. Price, availability, title, image and identifiers may arrive through HTML, structured data, merchant feeds and app integrations. Conflicts make verification harder.

Define product truth

Document where each attribute is maintained—commerce platform, PIM, ERP or app—and how it reaches the page and every feed. The objective is not more fields. It is fewer competing versions of the truth.

Keep critical attributes disciplined

Priorities usually include a persistent ID, precise title, useful description, brand, GTIN or MPN where available, price, currency, availability, condition, landing-page URL and primary image.

Google publishes its current Merchant Center product data specification, including formats and requirements.

Schema does not replace a feed

Product and Offer markup can help platforms interpret and verify on-page values. However, Google states that automatic item updates are not a replacement for regularly updating Merchant Center data.

Treat variants as first-class data

Size, color and bundles may change price, stock, imagery and identifiers. Each variant needs a trackable identity, alongside canonical rules that preserve useful pages without generating crawl waste.

The commercial outcome

Clean data reduces channel errors, makes comparison easier and lowers the cost of scaling a catalog. It is a quality foundation, not a visibility guarantee.

Evidence policy

Time-sensitive claims link to official sources; documentation, observation and hypothesis are kept distinct.
